Standard Catios – Solid, Well-Built Outdoor Cat Enclosures
Serving Essex, Kent & London
High-Quality Standard Catios Built to Last
Our Standard Catios offer a refined starting point for cat owners looking for a well-built, secure outdoor cat enclosure without unnecessary extras. This example showcases our standard catio design, constructed using strong, pre-treated timber and the same robust building methods used across all of our bespoke catio projects.
At Custom Pet Enclosures, we take pride in building solid, durable structures that are designed for long-term outdoor use. “Standard” refers to the core design style — not the quality. Every catio we build is carefully constructed to provide safety, strength, and longevity.
Timber Finish & Protective Coatings
Our Standard Catios are built in natural pre-treated timber as standard, offering excellent resistance to the elements. For enhanced protection and a personalised finish, you also have the option to:
-
Have your catio professionally painted in a colour of your choice
-
Apply OSMO exterior paint, adding an extra layer of weather protection
-
Leave the timber natural for a clean, understated look
These options allow your catio to complement your garden while increasing durability over time.
Roofing Options – Polycarbonate or Mesh
Our Standard Catios can be constructed with either:
-
A polycarbonate roof, offering increased protection from rain and harsh weather
-
A mesh roof, providing maximum airflow and natural light
When choosing your roofing option, it’s important to consider that the front and potentially the sides of the catio (depending on design and location) will be enclosed with mesh panels and exposed to the elements. While a solid roof offers partial weather protection, it provides significantly more shelter than a mesh roof.
Tinted polycarbonate roofing is also available, helping to reduce heat and direct sunlight during summer months. Please note that tinted roofing will reduce light levels during winter, which is an important consideration during the design process.
Optional Guttering & Water Management
For catios built with a polycarbonate roof, you may also choose to add a gutter and water butt system to help manage rainwater runoff. This is an optional upgrade and can be discussed during your consultation.
Designed Around Your Space & Cats
Although this is our Standard Catio design, each structure is still adapted to suit your available space, layout, and cats’ needs. All design elements, finishes, and optional features are discussed during your free, no-obligation consultation.
As experienced catio builders serving Essex, Kent, and London, we provide expert guidance to ensure your outdoor cat enclosure is built correctly, safely, and to a high standard.

Bengal Cats Arlo & Miya's Catio Space
Take a look above at one of our Standard Catios. This was provided in Natural pre treated timber. We built Additional dens and shelving for this project. I was lucky enough to visit our customers after a few months of the catio being installed to take some images and see how the cats Arlo & Miya were loving their new catio space. I got to see what our customers had added to the Catio. Think they have done a super job with the planting to make it such an inviting space.
