What type of paint is safe to use when building pet enclosures?

The paint we use for painting catios
We personally love using OSMO paint here at 'Custom Pet Enclosures' when building our Catio's.
What to Look for in Pet-Friendly Paints

Pet-friendly paints should be non-toxic and free from harmful VOCs. Look for paints that are labelled as low-VOC or zero-VOC. It’s also helpful to choose paint brands that are transparent about their ingredients and follow eco-friendly manufacturing processes. Here at Custom Pet Enclosures this is a very important consideration for us especially when building our custom Catios, Dog Crates, or any of our custom made enclosures for pets.

Considerations for selecting a safe, non-toxic paint

Choose paints free from toxic components like VOCs, solvents, and biocides. Look for certifications such as VOC-free or low-VOC to ensure non-toxicity. Opt for paints with low or no odour since pets can be sensitive to strong smells. Select durable paint to withstand pet activity like scratching or licking.

Benefits of Using Non-Toxic Pet Safe Paint

One of the best methods to safeguard your pet's health at home is by using non-toxic safe paint.

It greatly lowers the chance of your pet breathing in or swallowing dangerous substances, thus avoiding health issues associated with toxic exposure.

Extra Advantages for People and the Environment

Non-toxic paints are safer not only for pets but also for humans and the environment. They improve indoor air quality, which helps minimise allergy symptoms and other health hazards. They also reduce environmental pollution during both the manufacturing process and disposal.

Why Traditional Paints Can Be Dangerous to Pets

Small animals, especially pets, may be more vulnerable to toxic substances because of their smaller size and quicker metabolism. Being nearer to the ground and thus closer to painted surfaces, their risk of exposure is heightened. The symptoms of exposure to toxic paint can vary from mild to severe.

Signs of Toxic Paint Exposure

Mild symptoms include irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. Severe symptoms involve organ damage and neurological disorders.
