Catio enclosure for Arlo and Miya, the Bengal Cats.

  • Our customer reached out to us after moving into her new home in Chelmsford, Essex, with her two beautiful 10-year-old Bengal cats, Miya and Arlo. Although the cats were accustomed to living indoors, she wanted to explore the option of having a Catio to provide them with their own outdoor space. She contacted several companies online and received a few quotes, but they were beyond her budget. Some wouldn't attend a site visit either! This is where we excel at Custom Pet Enclosures, as Dan will attend site and typically comes up with ideas that fit most budgets while maintaining a high standard.

A little about Bengal Cats;

  • We know that Bengal cats are renowned for their distinct and captivating personalities, this sets them apart from many other domestic cat breeds. These felines are not only intelligent but also exhibit a remarkable level of liveliness that keeps their owners engaged and entertained. Their intelligence is often compared to that of dogs, as they can learn tricks, respond to commands, and even play fetch, showcasing their ability to engage in interactive play. This breed thrives on mental stimulation and enjoys challenges that allow them to utilise their problem-solving skills.

    Furthermore, Bengal cats are exceptionally interactive creatures. They possess a playful nature that encourages them to seek out companionship and interaction with their human families. This breed is known to form strong bonds with their owners, resulting in a genuine two-way relationship that is both rewarding and fulfilling. When I visited Lucy this was very clear to see with Arlo and Miya. Unlike some cats that may prefer solitude, Bengals often seek out human attention and affection, displaying behaviours such as following their owners around the house, sitting on laps, or even engaging in playful antics to capture your attention.

    Their lively demeanour also means that they require ample playtime and mental engagement to keep them happy and healthy. So I completely understood there need to expand thier home with a Catio for them. Owners of Bengal cats often find themselves participating in various activities, from interactive play sessions with toys to providing climbing structures that cater to their natural instincts. This Dan noticed was an important factor when designing their Catio. This level of interaction not only strengthens the bond between the cat and its owner but also ensures that the Bengal remains stimulated and content in its environment which is extremely important for us here at Custom Pet Enclosures to get right when designing Catio spaces for our customers. Overall, the unique personalities of Bengal cats make them not just pets, but also cherished companions that enrich the lives of those who welcome them into their homes this was clear as they even came up to us on our initial visit!

Our commitment to our customers;

  • We scheduled an onsite visit to talk about Lucy's preferences and what would benefit the cats. We explored potential locations for the Catio and discussed where she would like it to be placed. After taking measurements on-site we designed a Catio for her. We took into consideration everything we discussed and the needs of the cats and came up with a design that encompassed everything Lucy could want and the cats could need. Lucy had some fab ideas that she wanted to incorporate and make space for inside the catio for including a cat wheel and litter tray.

Meeting the Customer

  • We love meeting our customers and their cats and know how important it is to get the design right, whether the customer needs a roof to keep the weather at bay, or a mesh structure, whether they need shelving and pods / dens, whether they need space for furniture to sit in and enjoy the enclosure with there cats, this we do encourage. We design and build everything ourselves and take everything our customers want into consideration.

  • We received a Warm welcome from Lucy, Ben and her Bengal cats on the site visit and there was a genuine excitement all round about the cats experiencing their new space when it was fully built.

Advantages of a Catio for Bengal Cats

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit our customer after we installed the Catio to capture some photos of the cats and the Catio. We discussed firsthand how it had benefited both the cats and Lucy and her partner Ben. I was truly impressed by how many positive changes they had observed in the cats' behaviour. They also expressed feeling secure and at ease, knowing the cats were safe and enjoying enrichment from the outdoors.

Positive benefit's for Arlo and Miya the Bengal Cats;

  • Increased Activity Levels

- The cats' newfound energy and playfulness being able to access the catio was apparent. Observing them jumping, climbing, and displaying exploring behaviour's was lovely to see. Lucy said it's given them a new lease of life and a lot more confidence too. They are not as territorial, bad habits have decreased, and it's certainly raised their wellbeing. All great to hear and see first hand.

  • Enhanced Mental Stimulation

- The Catio provides a stimulating environment. They can smell different smells, hear the sounds of the garden, feel the wind in their fur, watch the birds on bird feeders that Lucy had put up outside the Catio. She felt happy she was protecting the local wildlife such as birds now.

- Enrichment through various toys and structures within the Catio, as they used the shelving platforms to jump on and lay on which again was lovely to see.

  • Social Interaction

- The Cats now interact with each other more and are a lot less vocal.

- Positive changes in the cats’ social behaviour and bonding spoke for itself.

Benefits for the Owner

  • Peace of Mind

- Owner's enjoyment knowing there cats are safe outdoors.

- Complete reduction in worry about outdoor dangers such as predators, other cats fighting for territories or traffic. All main concerns from the start which made her seriously think about getting a Catio, as every time she opened the garden doors there was a chance that the cats would dart outside.

  • Bonding Experience

- How the catio has improved the owner’s relationship with her cats by spending quality time together, able to sit and relax in the Catio. She talked about evenings in the summer now they can all sit outside without feeling bad listening to the cats meowing from inside wanting to be with them.

- Activities they can now do together inside the catio.

  • Aesthetic Appeal

- The Catio really does enhance their home. As I walked into the living room the Catio at the back, outside the double sliding doors looked an amazing place.Painted with a calming pale green, planted our with pet friendly plants in beautiful pots, Chairs and tables outside so they could eat and drink outside along with the cats. It truly looked a wonderful safe inviting place to be and I believe they will have many beautiful moments out there together with their cats.

- Design and functionality both meet together complementing the indoor living space, decor and ascetic of this home.

  • The impact of custom Catio's by Custom Pet Enclosures for pet owners and their pets are immense and I believe with all the positive benefit's that they bring to cats and owners lives alike, it enhances your home, gives you peace of mind knowing your cats are safe and secure and finally gives you lasting enjoyment and times you will be able to treasure together for a long time.
