✨ The Battersea Balcony Catio | London Catio
Project type
Balcony Catio
Location
London
The Brief
Maya’s owner wanted to transform their balcony into a safe, usable outdoor space — allowing their rescue cat to experience fresh air without any risk.
As an apartment setting, this came with strict limitations.
The structure needed to be completely secure, visually sympathetic to the building, and most importantly, fully non-invasive — with no permanent fixings that could compromise the property.
Alongside this, it needed to create a space Maya could confidently use, offering enrichment, comfort, and freedom within a compact footprint.
The Design
We designed a bespoke balcony catio that works entirely within the existing structure — without altering it.
Using a carefully engineered, non-invasive fixing system, the catio is securely installed without the need for drilling or permanent attachments. This ensures the integrity of the building is maintained, while still delivering complete safety.
All elements of the design were created in line with relevant building considerations and requirements — giving both the client and building management full peace of mind.
Visually, the structure was kept clean and minimal, allowing it to sit naturally within the balcony space without feeling intrusive.
The Build
Within a compact area, we focused on creating vertical interest and usability.
The space includes:
Elevated shelving for observation and rest
Handcrafted rope peg ladders for gentle activity
A custom-built cat cube for comfort and retreat
Each element was positioned to maximise movement and engagement, ensuring the balcony feels like a true extension of Maya’s environment — not just a contained space.
The Result
For Maya, this catio represents something significant — safe access to the outside world.
As a rescue cat, having a secure environment to experience fresh air, sounds, and movement is invaluable. The space allows her to explore at her own pace, building confidence in a controlled and protected way.
For the owner, it brings complete peace of mind.
The balcony is now fully usable — a safe, enclosed environment that doesn’t compromise the building, the space, or Maya’s wellbeing.
