This project was centred around creating a catio that offered the best of both environments — protection from the elements, while still maintaining a strong connection to the outdoors.

The clients wanted a space their cats could use comfortably in all weather conditions, without losing the light, airflow, and openness that make outdoor access so enriching.

At the same time, the structure needed to feel cohesive with the home and garden, with a clean, considered finish.

The Design

We developed a combination roof design, carefully balancing two key elements:

Polycarbonate roofing to provide shelter, dryness, and year-round usability
Mesh roofing sections to allow natural airflow, sunlight, and an open feel

This approach creates a more dynamic environment — giving the cats choice between covered and open areas, depending on the weather and their behaviour.

The structure was finished in a deep anthracite tone using specialist Osmo Garden Colour, offering both durability and a refined, modern aesthetic that integrates seamlessly with the property.

The Build

Internally, the focus was on creating a calm, usable space that encourages natural movement.

The catio includes:

Tailored shelving for elevation and observation
Integrated ramps for easy access between levels
A bespoke den area for rest and retreat

Each element was positioned to create flow within the space — allowing the cats to move, pause, and settle naturally without the structure ever feeling crowded.

The Result

The finished catio offers a balanced outdoor experience.

Sheltered when needed, open when desired — giving the cats the freedom to choose how they interact with their environment throughout the day.

For the owners, the structure feels like a considered addition to the garden — practical, well-finished, and designed to last.
